No doubt this summer’s Olympics will be a souvenir-fest. Probably consisting of marginally designed, mass produced crap. But funny how the crap from yesteryear holds more appeal. Amplied has a cool selection of vintage Olympic t-shirt designs. And indeed some of the old school designs are not crap at all. The tees are available here at SugarBullets – ‘the home of amplified’. I’m totally fuzzy on who’s who. (Amplified’s site seems to be a blog which leads to SugarBullets with is an online retailer. Ok). Whatever the case, check em out.

I throw around the phrase ‘vintage’ and ‘retro’ quite a bit when talking about popular tees. In most cases I really mean vintage or retro designs. They’re just what seems to be popular. But there are times when ‘vintage’ truly mean vintage – as in old. And original.

Personally I’m not so much into wearing used clothes. I take the few hand-me-sideways items from close friends, but wearing the clothes of strangers isn’t really my thing. But I know there are plenty of true vintage t-shirt fans out there and they’ll want to check out TinyPony.com.

Tiny Pony offers up real vintage shirts, hard-to-find stuff from decades past. They don’t come cheap, but they’re the real deal. Many of designs you might find familiar, and some our just plain off the wall, like the 1970′s Alice in Wonderland porno tee. Who knew?

The biggest draw for vintage wear might be for diehard sports fans. Now days franchises love to change up their logos, colors and even names. Finding a shirt with your favorite team’s logo and colors, just like they were when you grew up, is not easy. Hell, you might just see me wearing a vintage California Angels t-shirt afterall.

Urban Retro recently added a cool line of tees from UARM (Urban Arts Research Marketing), a brand comprised of internationl urban artists.¬† You can check out the line here. They feature ultra-thin 100% cotton that’s been enzyme washed and pre-distressed for that super-vintage look and feel, without the authentic vintage funk. Couple that caught our eye were the women’s Hollywood Heart Breakers tee and the men’s Breakfast of Champions.

Any¬† true fan of t-shirt culture owns a few vintage tees. Sometimes vintage just means a tee that’s survived our own youth, or a nice retro piece from a second hand store. But tshirts being tshirts tend to self-destruct after years of washing, so wearing a truly vintage piece isn’t always easy. Plus, let’s face it, some people’s old clothes stink and you won’t dare put em on your back.
